Truckers at the Port of Oakland refused to work on Monday in order to protest what they describe as “unsafe working conditions and unfair labor practices.” Most of the truckers who work at the California port are independent contractors and unable to form a union but decided to self-organize around shared grievances. Participating strikers and Bay Area citizens shared images and calls to action using the hashtag #PortTruckers.  Read The Stream’s Storify on the controversy here.
